We realized that even though there are many Website of the Year awards out there, none of them was for this special corner of the Internet, said Joe Luedtke, Vice President of Interactive Media at LPi.

Luedtke, a regular contributor and editor at CatholicTechTalk.com, continued, Who better to recognize parish sites than CatholicTechTalk.com, where Catholic techies learn about all things technology for their church, and LPi, who helps churches make all of their communications better?

An esteemed panel of judges has been assembled to rate the websites on their quality of content, design and visual appearance, ease of navigation, use of technology, and utilization of search optimization. Bethesda, MD (PRWEB) February 07, 2012

Dr. Christopher Raffo (M.D. from Georgetown in 1999), with offices in Bethesda and Germantown, practices sports medicine and orthopedics for adult and pediatric patients. My emphasis is on treating my patients in the most efficient and cost effective manner possible; normally this involves a myriad of non-operative modalities, such as medications, exercises and physical therapy, explains Dr. Raffo. Surgery is reserved for injuries that we know can’t get better with rehabilitation, or for cases that won’t get better. His group, Maryland Orthopedic Specialists, is partnered with physical therapy providers who also focus on healing active, motivated individuals.

Dr. Raffo is board certified in Orthopedic Surgery and Orthopedic Sports Medicine. The separate board certification for Orthopedic Sports Medicine is only available to physicians who complete an advanced fellowship in Sports Medicine and have an appropriately focused sports medicine practice.

Dr. Raffo’s most common procedures are knee and shoulder arthroscopy. In the shoulder, all aspects of rotator cuff disease are treated with minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery. The same is true for shoulder instability operations, which generally treat injuries to the labrum and associated conditions. The greatest advance is orthopedic surgery in the past 10-15 years, in my opinion, is the ability to treat rotator cuff tears without making more than a few quarter inch incisions, explains Dr. Raffo. The surgery is virtually painless with this technique; patients are less stiff and recover much faster.

Surgery in the knee usually involves the ligaments (such as the ACL), the meniscus, or the articular (surface) cartilage. The advances in knee surgery have revolved around doing the operations with less invasive fixation and smaller incisions. Along with that comes less pain and quicker recovery.

Dr. Raffo is active in the care of athletes. He is the head team physician for the Catholic University Cardinals and the Quince Orchard Cougars. Recent honors include being named Washingtonian Top Sports Medicine Provider in 2010 and Washington Post Super Doctor in 2011.

Appointments can be made through his website at MdOrthoSpecialists.com or by calling 301-515-0900.

Port-au-Prince, Haiti (PRWEB) January 31, 2012

Bochika is pleased to announce that the Jaden Tap Tap (Tap Tap Garden) urban community garden was proudly inaugurated on January 22, 2012 in Cite Soleil, Haiti. The Tap Tap Garden is Haitis largest urban garden containing more than 500 brightly painted tire gardens, flower garden, and a nursery of 1,000 trees. Nearly 600 community members, NGOs, and government officials joined Bochika, SAKALA-Pax Christi Ayiti, and SOIL in celebrating the inauguration of the garden, as well as a new community Eco-San Toilet. The crowd was delighted to participate in the daylong event that featured a farmers market, agricultural demonstrations, musical and dance performances by local youth, and special appearance by internationally recognized Haitian recording artist, BelO.

The inauguration showcased the Tap Tap Garden as a model for urban agriculture for the neighborhood, country, and the world – demonstrating that bountiful, nutritious gardens can be grown in even the harshest conditions. The Tap Tap Garden is an acre of former landfill that now symbolizes hope, empowerment, education, and opportunity for Cite Soleil, one of Haitis most impoverished neighborhoods. As part of Pax Christi Ayitis SAKALA youth empowerment program, the garden is also a living classroom, providing 250 at-risk youth with a safe, positive environment in which to learn the basics of agroecology, agroforestry, nutrition, and to develop leadership and entrepreneurial skills. Food grown in the Tap Tap Garden feeds more than 250 neighborhood youth and residents of the nearby elderly and disabled persons displacement camp, Mitchiko, and will be sold to ensure long-term sustainability of the garden.

Bochika would like to thank everyone who attended and/or contributed to the success of the inauguration, especially our fellow partners in the Tap Tap Garden: Pax Christi Ayiti, Pax Christi USA, SOIL (Sustainable Organic Integrated Livelihoods), Pro-Huerta, Catholic Relief Services (CRS), Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) and Onslot Creative. A special thanks to esteemed guests, Ambassador Marcelo Raul Sebaste from Argentina, Ambassador Ivan Gaton from the Dominican Republic, and to all of the performers, especially BelO for their support.

Phoenix (PRWEB) January 24, 2012

Between the years of 1965-2005, half of the 67 million Catholics in the U.S. have stopped attending Church regularly, says Patty Kogutek, author of the new book A Change of Habit: A Spiritual Journey From Sister Mary Kateri To Sister Mary Vodka (published by Balboa Press). There are over 111,000 nuns that dropped out of convents during that time also.all of them guilt ridden souls trying to find God. Having lived through just such a situation, Kogutek delivers her memoir, exploring her reasons for her decision and offering readers respite from the guilt they may feel from living through similar ordeals.

A Change of Habit recounts Koguteks spiritual journey. As she explains, it all started when a religious eddy ostensibly forced her to join a convent. Although she remained in the convent for seven years, Kogutek left that life behind to begin the difficult journey of shedding the habits what she calls the debilitating patterns instilled in her during the time she spent married to God.

Kogutek assures readers that her story is relatable and accessible, and that it will pique their curiosity. Anyone struggling to do the right thing will resonate with my struggles. The mystery of what goes on behind the closed doors of the convent unveils many answers that inquiring minds want to know!

I write as a call to action, moving others to honestly and continuously reflect on their own situations and bravely act to promote and protect their own power and happiness, says Kogutek. Its a story of love, searching, change, responsibility, and hope.

About the Author

A Catholic nun for seven years, Patty Kogutek knows about life behind the convent walls. After leaving religious life, she earned a doctorate from the University of Southern California. Kogutek is on the board of North Valley Hospital Foundation and works with the Authors of the Flathead. She and her husband now split their time between Arizona and Montana.

Conshohocken, PA (PRWEB) January 05, 2012

A CRM system designed specifically for higher education has proved so efficient that two full-time staffers can successfully recruit students for 41 graduate and certificate programs at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia.

The Student Recruitment Manager?, a cloud-based customer relationship management system developed by TargetX, is the basis of an electronic communications strategy that facilitates the recruitment of thousands of students to a wide assortment of specialized graduate programs.

“We’ve put in place a comprehensive communications plan for prospective students and a process for managing those communications despite a very, very lean staff,” says Jill Dougherty Cleary, Director of Marketing and Recruitment for Graduate Studies in the College of Arts & Sciences.

Cleary works with one other full-time staff member and several graduate assistants to respond to an enormous number of prospective students, provide the most relevant information based on their interests, lead them through the recruitment process and team them with an academic program director.

And the Student Recruitment Manager makes it possible. “We’re able to be much more strategic and student-focused,” says Cleary. “Prior to our use of the SRM, there was a lot of guessing about where a student was in the process. For example, we didn’t know if a prospect had attended a recruiting event, had traveled to campus for an interview, or even if they had already applied for one of our programs.

“With the SRM, we can see what they’ve done and what else they need. We can respond instantly to their inquiry and then put together a communications stream that’s completely tailored to their interests.”

The result is a highly-effective process that takes advantage of the tools built into the SRM?, including email communication, event management, online chats, custom reports and workflows.

In addition to creating a much more efficient process, the SRM is proving invaluable in measuring return on investment (ROI), highly desirable among marketing professionals, but often difficult to track and calculate.

“With so many niche programs, we have to invest our advertising and promotion dollars in a lot of specifically targeted publications, websites and social networks,” explains Cleary. “We need a way to tie it all together to see what’s working for us, and the SRM is making that possible.”

Cleary, who served as the university’s project manager for implementation of the SRM, is moving from the graduate office into the IT department where she will work on technology projects across all divisions of the university. She sees enormous potential for a CRM system to help in other areas at Saint Joseph’s, including financial aid, student retention and alumni affairs.

“The importance of relationship management has become a huge topic on campus,” she explains, “and I can see where the SRM can have application for all of our key audiences, not just prospective students.”

The Student Recruitment Manager is a groundbreaking CRM system that helps colleges manage, integrate and automate the process of student recruitment from the first point of contact through enrollment. In 2008, TargetX built the SRM on the proven Force.com platform of Salesforce.com, the worldwide leader in on-demand customer relationship management and a pioneer in cloud computing. The result is a cloud-based system that is the most powerful, mobile and customizable recruiting tool in higher education.

The SRM is used by the undergraduate admissions office at Saint Joseph’s as well as the graduate studies office.

Las Vegas, NV. (PRWEB) December 31, 2011

Christmas Donation Campaigns were feeling the pinch this year, and with families squeezed by the economy, the kids are the ones feeling the pain. Donations make a big difference for the one in five kids living below the poverty level. In NV, one of the hardest hit states in the US, 13% of all babies, toddlers and teens have been kicked out of their homes because of unpaid mortgages or rent. These kids will suffer academically, environmentally and socially long after their parents have recovered. My five year old came home from kindergarten several weeks ago talking about food stamps. Thats not a conversation children should be concerned with says Jacqueline Sloboda, Founder of Flex Hour Jobs.

Flex Hour Jobs gets calls every week from single parents desperate for work. They explain their situations of losing homes and worrying about their kids. Child Poverty is exploding in America and the main reason is the millions of parents unemployed. Its with great pleasure that we donate part of our profits to help those in need says Sloboda. When a person looks back on their life, the days they remember are the days that changed who they are. Giving to kids in need will make a big difference in their lives.

Flex Hour Jobs participated in Tory Johnsons Spark & Hustle Holiday Cheer Campaign which raised donations for people in need. As ABCs Deals and Steals Reporter, Johnson and her crew were able to use coupons and super savings deals to stretch the impact of every dollar donated in buying clothing, toys, groceries, bikes and bedding for people in need.

Starting 2012, Flex Hour Jobs is launching an exciting campaign in January to help returning veterans and their families with job searches. With the support of our communities, together we can make a difference for those veterans who have put their lives on the line to help us. Watch for upcoming details and if you dont have the resources to donate, please consider donating your time. For additional info contact:
